Featured song – One Love In My Lifetime, by McGuire, from their 1978 album Destined To Be Yours.

There is a story that is apparently making the rounds of blogs. I was pointed to one reproduction of it here, and on trying to find the original I discovered that many have posted and commented on it.

The article is well worth a read, but its essence is this: Do I love God for who He is, or do I love Him for what He does for me? I had read and thought about the article, and then came across this song as I was later listening to music. I felt that the two went together.

The song discusses a love for God that, yes, is in response to the leading He has provided for the life of the singer, but has advanced beyond the aspect of loving God just for what He has done.

A mature love is one that has gone deeper into the reason for the love. Do I have that love for God that is there regardless of how well things are going in my life? Do I have the faith of Job, who said (in Job 13:15), “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him”?

    This album was one of my all time favorites. I lent my vinyl copy to a friend when I left to do missions work with YWAM and never got it back. I wish so much that I could still find a copy or buy a digital copy on-line. The instrumental “Destine to be Your” is one of the most power and thrilling instrumentals of all time. “From rags to riches” is another excellent excellent cut off this album. If anyone knows how to get a copy of this album still, please let me know.

    I really would love to get a digital copy of this album. My Grandmother gave it to me in the early 80’s, and I listened to it all the time until it was stolen out of my car with most of my other cassettes. I’ve kept the cardboard casette insert all this time hoping that it would resurface sometime. I just happened to be going through one of my old boxes and found the cover and decided to check it out online. I’m amazed at how many places I can find it as apposed to just a few years ago.
    I don’t know how much you are charging for a copy of this album, but I’d really like a copy.

    I just bought McGuire’s “Destined To Be Yours” LP vinyl album on ebay last week for $6, and shipping was only $3.50. It has been one of my favorites since it was released. Dony McGuire is the uncle of one of my best friends. Dony’s brother is my buddy’s dad. Anyway, if you need this album on vinyl, just shop ebay or Amazon. If you’d like a CD of the vinyl ripped, I can send that to you. Just cover my shipping/packaging. It shouldn’t cost me more than $4 or $5 to ship to the U.S. Let me know. I’d be happy to send you a CD to listen to. It’s a great digital backup if you have the LP, but don’t have the means to rip it yourself. 🙂 God bless & keep you.
