Today’s featured song: Trust In The Lord, by Dion Dimucci, from the 1983 album, I Put Away My Idols.

The 4th track on Tape JM-31 follows up immediately with the previous Dion song with another, also from the same album (I guess I liked Dion’s songs!)  Like the previous song, Dion has taken scripture and put it to music, this time focussed on Proverbs 3:5-6, with some Hebrews 11:1 thrown in for good measure. A great way to put Bible verses to music to make them easier to remember!

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart
Lean not on your own understanding
Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways
He will make your path straight

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart
Lean not on your own understanding
Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways
He will make your path straight
He will make your path straight, yes He will

Jonah got along in the belly of the whale
Daniel in the lion’s den
I know a man who lived on faith ’till the very end
Well, now the Good Book says that without faith
It is impossible to please God
Because anyone who comes to Him must believe

So you trust in the Lord with all of your heart
Lean not on your own understanding
Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways
He will make your path straight
He will make your path straight, yes He will

Against all hope, Father Abraham
In hope he did believe
God calls things that are not as though they were
Oh, now, if God said it, I believe it
And that’s good enough for me
We who walk by faith and not by what we see

You see we trust in the Lord with all of our hearts
Lean not on our own understanding
Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways
He will make your paths straight, yes He will
He will make your paths straight

Faith is being sure of what we hope for
And it is certain of what we do not see
Faith it surely comes by hearing
The word of God, you see
God, you see, yeah

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart
L ean not on your own understanding
Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways
He will make your paths straight
He will make your paths straight

(Our tour of old cassette recordings is interrupted by this special message)

Several months ago, I was contacted by a gentleman named Vince Daniels, asking if I had any more KYMS jingles, etc, on my collection of JM tapes. I shared what I had with him, and he said he was working on a special to post on YouTube, several hours of music from KYMS from 1975 to 1981, covering Jesus music’s golden age, its years of first maturity and widespread distribution. He wanted to do it in a historical format, playing the music and its relation to KYMS (see my page about KYMS here).

Now, after considerable work that was going on long before he contacted me, Vince is nearly ready to present his completed work.  Here is the preview video:

Today’s featured song: Here Is My Servant, by Dion Dimucci, from the 1983 album, I Put Away My Idols.

JM-31The second and third tracks on Tape JM-31 from 1984 demonstrate CCM radio in its early mature years, with jingles that do not simply identify the station, but also incorporate info about some of the artists. And, in good radio style, the jingle that mentions Dion is directly followed by the opening track from his third Christian album. Here Is My Servant takes from God’s words in Isaiah 42:1, announcing the eventual appearance of His chosen Servant, Jesus.

La dya da da da da
La da da da dah dah ahh
La dya da dah

Here is my Servant, Whom I uphold
My chosen One, with Whom I’m pleased
Here is my Servant, my only Son
He will release you from all your sin
Blind eyes will open, pris’ners will go free
Those in darkness will bathe in His light

Oh, Jesus
Glory hallelujah
Glory hallelujah
Sweet Lord Jesus

Well, just believe on Him
He is the power
Just believe on Him
He is the glory
Strong as a saw, to cut through the lies
Of the night

Here is my Servant, His name is Jesus
You who receive Him receive Me
Here is my Servant, He is the Healer
He will destroy your sickness and pain
He’s filled with my Spirit, baptized with fire
Reach out and touch Him, and you will be free

Jesus,
Glory hallelujah
Glory hallelujah
Sweet Lord Jesus

Well, just believe on Him
He is the power
Believe on Him
He is the glory
Strong as a saw, to cut through the lies
Of the night

Oh Jesus, glory hallelujah
Glory hallelujah
Sweet Lord Jesus
How I love You

Jesus
Glory hallelujah
Sweet Lord Jesus (glory hallelujah)
Sweet Lord Jesus
Oh, how I love You, Lord

Today’s featured song: Love Crucified Arose, by Michael Card, from the 1983 album, Legacy.

The first song on Tape JM-31 is another of Michael Card’s wonderful songs about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. What I have always liked about his music is his poetic style, getting a lot of meaning into a few words, and this song is no exception, and a great example of his early work.

Long ago He blessed the earth
Born older than the years
And in the stall a cross He saw
Through the first of many tears
A life of homeless wandering
Cast out in sorrow’s way
The Shepherd seeking for the lost
His life the price He paid

Love crucified arose
The risen One in splendor
Jehovah’s sole Defender
Has won the victory
Love crucified arose
And the grave became a place of hope
For the heart that sin and sorrow broke
Is beating once again

Throughout Your life You felt the weight
Of what You’d come to give
To drink for us that crimson cup
So we might really live
At last the time to love and die
The dark appointed day
That one forsaken moment when
Your Father turned His face away

Love crucified arose
The One who lived and died for me
Was Satan’s nail-pierced casualty
Now He’s breathing once again
Love crucified arose
And the grave became a place of hope
For the heart that sin and sorrow broke
Is beating once again

Love crucified arose
The risen One in splendor
Jehovah’s sole Defender
Has won the victory
Love crucified arose
And the grave became a place of hope
For the heart that sin and sorrow broke
Is beating once again

Love crucified arose …
